The Three Phases of The Wheelhouse: A Journey of Transformation and Recovery
At The Wheelhouse, we understand that addiction recovery is not a quick fix, but a process of deep personal and spiritual transformation. Our program is built around three key phases, each designed to guide men through the complex journey of overcoming addiction and reentering society as responsible, functional, and self-sufficient individuals. Through structure, support, and spiritual guidance, we help our clients rebuild their lives one phase at a time.
Phase One: Laying the Foundation (30 Days )
The first phase of recovery at The Wheelhouse is all about willingness. This phase is intense, with one purpose in mind: to help men break free from the immediate grip of addiction and begin the process of rebuilding their lives. For 30 days, men at The Wheelhouse are completely immersed in the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous, which provides a framework for spiritual growth and emotional healing.
During this critical first phase, distractions are eliminated. There are no phones, no television, no newspapers, or even books to read. There’s only the focus on the work ahead with the 12-step program. The goal is to create a space for personal reflection and growth without the interference of outside influences.
Our approach is unique in that we dive deeply into the first eight steps of the 12-step program, preparing men for long-term sobriety. This rigorous phase requires a willingness to confront the addiction head-on and engage in self-examination and accountability.
One of the foundational aspects of Phase One is spirituality. While many treatment centers shy away from the topic of faith, The Wheelhouse embraces it, recognizing that a strong connection to God can be transformative for those in recovery. The first 30 days are free, allowing men to experience this intensive phase without financial pressure, and to understand the profound impact the 12-step program can have on their lives.
Phase Two: Building a New Life (90 Days)
After completing the first 30 days, men can transition to Phase Two, a more comprehensive 90-day program designed to help them rebuild the practical aspects of their lives. This phase focuses on resolving the logistical challenges of life after addiction, while continuing to work through the next steps in the 12-step program.
Men in this phase work on securing important personal documents, such as State IDs, medical records, and legal documentation. They open checking accounts and create budgets. They are partnered with legal aid as well as health and wellness services. These practical steps are essential for rebuilding independence and reentering society with the proper identification and legal standing.
Alongside these efforts, participants continue to work on steps 9 through 12 of the 12-step program. These steps emphasize personal accountability, making amends for past wrongs, and deepening the spiritual connection that is critical to lasting recovery.
The men also focus on employment during this phase, applying for jobs and seeking work opportunities. They are encouraged to start working while continuing to address their personal and emotional recovery. This phase helps to build a sense of responsibility and reinforces the idea that recovery is about more than just abstaining from substances; it's about re-engaging with life in a meaningful way.
Phase Three: Transitioning to Independence (Sober Home)
The third and final phase of The Wheelhouse program is designed to support men as they transition from sober living into independent living. After completing the first two phases, many men are ready to move into their own homes, but the process of reintegration into society can be challenging. The Sober Home provides a supportive and structured environment that helps ease this transition.
The Sober Home is a critical step for men who have successfully completed the 90-day program. Here, they continue to work on maintaining their sobriety while learning to navigate the responsibilities of independent living. They are given the opportunity to practice self-sufficiency in a safe, sober environment, where they can continue to receive support and guidance from The Wheelhouse community.
This phase is particularly important because it provides the stability men need as they take on new responsibilities. It’s a time for continued personal growth and accountability, while preparing to live life on their own terms.
Phase Three is a critical step in the recovery process that allows men to take the lessons they’ve learned and apply them to their own lives, outside of the structured environment of The Wheelhouse.
The Road to Recovery: A Successful Model
Our unique approach at The Wheelhouse has proven successful, with 70% of the men who complete the first two phases of our program achieving long-term recovery. The three phases offer a holistic, step-by-step process that focuses not only on overcoming addiction, but also on rebuilding every aspect of a person’s life. From confronting addiction to securing personal documentation, finding employment, and transitioning to independent living, The Wheelhouse provides a complete recovery program.
This success derives from the men who enter the program who come with the desire to change, the willingness to work hard, and the faith that recovery is possible. The three phases of our program serve as a roadmap, guiding each individual to freedom, self-reliance, and, ultimately, a fulfilling life in sobriety.
If you or a loved one is ready to begin the recovery journey, The Wheelhouse is here to help. Our structured, supportive program offers the tools and resources needed to break free from addiction and create a new life.
